I cannot stress enough the importance of establishing productive daily morning routines when it comes to being successful. Productive morning routines keep us grounded, focused and consistent; they establish a familiar tone and lead to the achievement of set goals. We all have daily morning routines established, whether they benefit or hinder our life goals should be fairly obvious. What does yours do? Does it set you up for productivity? Does it lend itself to keeping you focused on your goals? Does it prioritize and emphasize what you want out of life? More than likely you have never focused on it or given it much relevance to the overall impact it has on your life.
You alarm goes off. You hit snooze. You alarm goes off again. You hit snooze again. You muddle out of bed, take a twenty minute shower, get ready and go to work. How does this morning routine build productive energy and focus? How does it set you on your path for success? Are you waking up and taking control of your life or is “life” taking control of you?
Ideally, you should do three things every morning:
- Wake up and get out of bed at the same time each morning and immediately do something productive – make the bed, do twenty push ups and drink water.
- Next, do something for your health and well being. Workout. Practice Yoga. Meditate. Pray.
- Finally, briefly review your goals for the day. Focus on what you need to accomplish personally and professionally. Acknowledge you will work hard and complete the tasks set forth on that day.
The total time for these simple three tasks can be as little as twenty-five minutes or as long as an two hours. That depends on the needs and time constraints of the individual and the individual day.
